Cell phone use is permitted in the Library; however, please be respectful of your fellow library users by following these guidelines:

  • Set your phone to silent or vibrate.
  • If you must answer or make a call, please speak in a low voice and, if the call will last for more than a few minutes, use the first floor lobby areas or exit the building.
  • Designated “Quiet Areas” in the Library are the Sixth Floor Reading Room, the Brown Fine Arts Library Reading Room (3rd floor) and the Second Floor Balcony (overlooking the Current Periodicals Room). Cell phones should not be used in these areas. The book stacks in the basement and on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors are also used as quiet study areas, so please limit your cell phone use in these parts of the Library as well.
