You can set up Zotero file storage via WebDAV to your Box account. This is a way of avoiding storage fees in Zotero.org, while still syncing large numbers of pdf attachments across your devices. After setting up WebDAV, you will have the option to purge file attachments already stored on Zotero.org (you can do this anytime at Zotero.org>Settings>Storage).
Below is a screenshot of a Zotero Preferences>Sync tab set up for WebDAV via Box:
- the item information is still syncing through the Zotero Sync Server, but the "Sync full-text content" box is not checked. Instead, files are syncing through WebDAV.
- For the WebDAV/Box username and password, you can't use your regular Rice Single Sign-on password. Instead, you need to log into Box online, go to Account Settings>Account tab, and Create [an] External Password.
- Click Verify Server in your Zotero Preferences to make sure you've done it right.
- Attachments in group libraries can only sync through Zotero.org.
The mobile solutions PaperShip and Zotfile work with WebDAV syncing. The Zotero support page with information on this and other sync options is here: https://www.zotero.org/support/sync
